Toledo to Madison is 160 miles east on the Ohio Turnpike and I-90. Eight adults-only rooms at a Lake Erie winery, with Grand River steelhead nearby.
Our family spent eight years finishing this stone and slate mansion before opening it to guests in 2024. Today, the house brings together our boutique hotel, restaurant and wine bar, with Lake Erie beyond the north windows. Estate Cabernet Franc is grown, pressed and poured on the property; the 2022 vintage received Double Gold at the 2025 Ohio Wine Competition. Read our story.
Worth the drive
Why stay with us
A fishing weekend from Toledo can switch species. The Grand River, which reaches Lake Erie in Lake County, runs steelhead from October to May: the Ohio Division of Wildlife stocks it each year, and it has more than 50 miles of fishable water up to Harpersfield. Walleye charters also run on this part of the lake. Breakfast at the inn is cooked to order from 8:30 to 10, so an early start on the river can end with eggs and coffee. Dinner is in the same house, and your room, with a private bath and a king or queen bed, is upstairs.

A stay worth planning around
At 2.5 hours, leave Toledo at 1 p.m. to arrive for the 4 p.m. check-in. Two nights, Friday and Saturday, cover dinner both evenings. For steelhead, pick October to early May, bring your Ohio fishing license and, if the river is new to you, book a guide.
Oberlin, off Turnpike exit 140
Turnpike exit 140 (State Route 58) leads six miles south to Oberlin, where the Allen Memorial Art Museum at 87 North Main Street has offered free admission since 1917. It is open Tuesday to Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday 1 to 5, and closed Monday. Back on the Turnpike, exit 142 is where I-90 splits toward Cleveland. E-ZPass saves up to 33 percent on Turnpike tolls, and the plazas also take cash and cards.
Friday: Turnpike, then an early night
Leave Toledo at 1 and you arrive around 4 p.m., when check-in starts; check-out on Sunday is 11 a.m. If the boat is booked for dawn, use the evening well: an hour in the pool or hot tub (inn guests, May to November 1, weather permitting), then an early dinner. The Friday kitchen runs until 9, and the corn-crusted walleye is on the menu. Dinner and drinks are paid separately from the room.
Saturday on the water, by season
From May through September, book a walleye charter out of Geneva State Park Marina, where captains fish the deeper central basin; in late summer into mid-October, many switch to yellow perch. From October to spring, fish Conneaut Creek instead: public access in Ohio is at Conneaut Harbor and the Lakeville access off Center Road. Morning trips mean you miss breakfast, which is served 8:30 to 10 (cooked to order, standard menu, coffee and juice included), so plan for Sunday’s. Be off the water by mid-afternoon, shower, and come down for dinner.
Suite 205 for evenings over the lake
Anglers who spend the day on Lake Erie tend to want to watch it in the evening. Suite 205 has a king bed and a private rooftop patio over the lake, and a private bath like every room. The suite is upstairs and the inn has no elevator, so leave waders and rods in the car. The summer two-night minimum fits a Friday-and-Saturday booking.
Book Suite 205, read the Conneaut Creek guide for fall and spring, and reserve Saturday’s dinner for after the boat comes in.

The drive
Getting here
I-280 to the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/I-90) east, off at exit 142 onto I-90, then through Cleveland to the Route 528 exit. About 160 miles; the Turnpike is the only toll.
Set your destination to 1300 Belleair Avenue, Madison, Ohio. Check current navigation before leaving and allow for traffic and stops. Once here, your room, the restaurant and the wine bar are on the same property.
Good to know
Common questions
When is steelhead season on the Grand River?
From October to May. The river gets a Pennsylvania-strain run each fall, and the Little Manistee fish the Ohio Division of Wildlife stocks return each spring. Fishable water runs more than 50 miles from the lake to Harpersfield. You need an Ohio fishing license, and conditions change with rain, so check a current report before you drive.
Can we launch our own boat near the inn?
Yes. The marina at Geneva State Park, a short drive east, has a six-lane launch ramp, transient docking, fuel, and bait and tackle, and it sells Ohio fishing licenses. Walleye trolling in this part of the lake runs May through September. Several charter captains also leave from the same marina if you would rather not trailer the boat from Toledo.
Is the drive from Toledo on a toll road?
Partly. The Ohio Turnpike runs from I-280 to exit 142, where you switch to I-90, which is free through Cleveland to Madison. The Turnpike accepts E-ZPass, cash and credit or debit cards, and E-ZPass holders save up to 33 percent on passenger-car tolls.
