From Canton, I-77, I-271 and I-90 reach Madison in about 90 minutes: an adults-only winery inn with eight rooms on Lake Erie, a restaurant and a wine bar.
Vincent William is an adults-only inn with eight rooms above our restaurant and wine bar, in a stone and slate mansion that opened to guests in 2024, with Lake Erie beyond the north windows. Estate Cabernet Franc is grown, pressed and poured on the property; the 2022 vintage received Double Gold at the 2025 Ohio Wine Competition. Read our story.
Worth the drive
Why stay with us
The drive from Canton ends at a stone mansion on Lake Erie that the Profeta family opened as an inn in 2024. Each of the eight adults-only rooms has a king or queen bed and a private bath. For an anniversary, Suite 206 has a king bed and an in-room Jacuzzi. The inn has no elevator, so guests who would rather avoid stairs can ask for Suite 101 on the first floor, which has a clawfoot tub and a steam shower. Dinner is downstairs, cooked by Executive Chef Jeff Gable's kitchen, and breakfast is cooked to order from 8:30 to 10 with coffee and fresh juice.

A stay worth planning around
Leave Canton by 2:30 p.m. for the 4 p.m. check-in, or earlier if you want a stop in Kirtland. Two nights let you give the middle day to Grand River Valley wineries such as Ferrante or Laurello, with a ride from GoGeneva or Sunset Taxi, and still eat dinner at the inn. Arrive Wednesday through Saturday.
Holden Arboretum, off I-90
The Holden Arboretum, at 9500 Sperry Road in Kirtland, is a short detour south from I-90 before the last stretch to Madison. It is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays. Admission includes the Murch Canopy Walk and the 120-foot Kalberer Emergent Tower, which looks out toward Lake Erie; both are open April 1 through November 1. An early start from Canton leaves time for both the arboretum and check-in.
Leaving Canton at 2:30 for an anniversary dinner
The drive up I-77 and I-271 gets you to Madison by 4 p.m., when rooms are ready. Each has its own private bath. Unpack, change for dinner, and spend half an hour in the hot tub if it is the pool season, May to November 1, and the weather holds. Order a bottle of the estate Cabernet Franc with dinner; the 2022 took Double Gold at the 2025 Ohio Wine Competition. Dinner and wine come on their own bill, apart from the room rate.
Lunch at Ferrante, a tasting at Laurello
Take breakfast late, before the kitchen stops at 10; the standard menu is cooked to order, and coffee and juice are part of the stay. Ferrante Winery & Ristorante, on North River Road West near Geneva, serves lunch on most days it is open; check its hours first. Order pasta with a glass of their wine, then take a ride to Laurello Vineyards on Route 307 East. GoGeneva or Sunset Taxi can do both legs. Return to Madison for a 7:30 dinner. On the last morning, check-out is at 11. See the Ferrante guide before you go.
Suite 101 when parents come along
For an anniversary that includes parents or anyone who would rather not climb stairs, Suite 101 is the first-floor room, with a clawfoot tub and a steam shower. The rest of the inn has no elevator. Book it first, then put the second couple upstairs. In summer both rooms need two nights; the rest of the year one is fine.
Read about Suite 101 on the first floor, browse the dinner menu before you choose a night, and book a table for the evening you drive up from Canton.
