Niagara Falls to Madison, Ohio is 175 miles by I-190 and I-90. Add a night or two at an adults-only winery inn on Lake Erie with eight rooms and a restaurant.
Our family spent eight years finishing this stone and slate mansion before opening it to guests in 2024. Today, the house brings together our boutique hotel, restaurant and wine bar, with Lake Erie beyond the north windows. Estate Cabernet Franc is grown, pressed and poured on the property; the 2022 vintage received Double Gold at the 2025 Ohio Wine Competition. Read our story.
Worth the drive
Why stay with us
The Niagara River carries Lake Erie's outflow over the falls, and Vincent William is on the same lake, 175 miles southwest along the shore. If you are in Niagara Falls on a longer trip, it is a way to add a winery and a quiet night to the itinerary. The inn has eight adults-only rooms, each with a private bath and a king or queen bed. Suite 205 has a private rooftop patio over the lake, and Suite 206 has an in-room Jacuzzi. The restaurant downstairs serves lunch and dinner Wednesday to Sunday, and breakfast for inn guests is cooked to order from 8:30 to 10.

A stay worth planning around
Leave Niagara Falls by 1:15 p.m. to arrive at 4, or by noon if you are crossing from Canada. Plan two nights so one full day is free for Grand River Valley wineries or Headlands Beach. Arrive Wednesday through Saturday; the restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday. In summer, two nights is the minimum.
A Frank Lloyd Wright house on the lake
Graycliff, in Derby, New York, is the summer house Frank Lloyd Wright designed in 1926 for the Martin family, set on the Lake Erie shore about two minutes off NY Route 5. A new visitor center opened for the house’s centennial in 2026. Tours run six days a week from April through November and Friday to Sunday in winter; tickets must be bought in advance. From Derby, rejoin I-90 south toward Pennsylvania.
Arriving from the falls
After a morning at the falls, a 1:15 departure brings you to Madison for the 4 p.m. check-in; leave by noon if you are crossing from Ontario. Before dinner, the pool and hot tub are open to inn guests from May to November 1, weather permitting. The wine bar pours a Riesling made from Lake Erie grapes, from the same lake whose outflow you watched go over the falls. Dinner and drinks are charged separately from the room.
Underground Railroad history on the Ohio shore
Niagara Falls has its own Underground Railroad Heritage Center, which tells how freedom seekers crossed the Niagara River into Canada. The Ohio shore holds another part of that history. After breakfast (standard menu, cooked to order, coffee and juice included), spend the late morning on Bridge Street in Ashtabula Harbor, 25 minutes east, where the 1925 lift bridge still lifts for boats. Then walk into the Hubbard House, built in the 1840s and known as Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard: people who reached it walked to the river and boarded boats for Canada. It keeps limited summer weekend hours, so check before you go.
Suite 205 or 206, depending on the month
Choose by season. From late spring into fall, Suite 205 and its private rooftop patio over the lake are the better choice. From November to April, when sitting outside is less appealing, Suite 206 and its in-room Jacuzzi make more sense. Both have king beds. Check-out is at 11 a.m., which leaves time to reach the border by mid-afternoon.
Read our Hubbard House guide, then compare Suite 205 with Suite 206 and pick the one that fits the month you travel.

The drive
Getting here
Take I-190 south over the Grand Island bridges (tolled in both directions by E-ZPass or Tolls by Mail) through Buffalo to I-90, then I-90 southwest along Lake Erie through Pennsylvania into Ohio. From the Ontario side, cross into New York first at the Rainbow Bridge or the Lewiston–Queenston Bridge.
Set your destination to 1300 Belleair Avenue, Madison, Ohio. Check current navigation before leaving and allow for traffic and stops. Once here, your room, the restaurant and the wine bar are on the same property.

Common questions
What documents do we need to drive from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls?
U.S. citizens returning by land need a valid passport, passport card, enhanced driver's license or NEXUS card, under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. Canadian citizens and other travelers should check U.S. Customs and Border Protection entry rules before leaving. Build extra time into the day for the crossing.
Does every room have its own bathroom?
Yes. All eight rooms have a private bath and one king or queen bed, and the inn is for adults only. Suite 101, on the first floor, has a clawfoot tub and a steam shower; Suite 206 has an in-room Jacuzzi. The house has no elevator, so say so when you book if stairs are a problem.
Can we combine Niagara Falls and Vincent William in one trip?
Yes. The drive is 175 miles, about 2 hours 45 minutes. Spend the morning at the falls, stop at Graycliff in Derby if you have booked a tour, and check in at 4. Two nights here leave one day for Grand River Valley wineries, with rides from GoGeneva, Sunset Taxi or The Lodge wine shuttle.
