Perch & Winter Fishing

Yellow perch fishing off this stretch of coast runs strongest from late summer into autumn, and it is the friendliest fishing on the lake: short runs, simple tackle, and a genuinely good dinner at the end of it.

The season here does not close when the leaves do. Perch hold on into the cold, steelhead move into the rivers, and in hard winters the shallows and harbors draw ice anglers. Conditions vary year to year and local advice matters more than a calendar.

It is the argument for a winter visit. The wine is better in a warm room when it is gray outside, and the coast belongs to about eleven people.
