A shell with a very good view.
Someone began building this house in the late 1990s and never finished the inside. It stood empty for years. What it did have was thirteen thousand square feet of stone and cedar, a slate roof, and an uninterrupted view of the lake. We decided that was enough to build on, and we spent the next eight years finishing it.
This house came from other buildings.
Wherever we could, we used reclaimed and regional material. Sourcing close to home kept material out of landfill and money in the region.
Street stone
We salvaged the paving stone from streets in Ohio and Indiana.
Campus stone
Stone from university campuses went into the patio and the walls.
Church slate
The slate on the roof came off a church in Pennsylvania.
Roadway brick
We reclaimed the brick from Ohio roadways.

Open since 2024
Eight years later, the house is finished.
The bare stone and the missing plumbing are behind us. The house now holds a restaurant, a wine bar and an inn.
Inside the house
This is what the house holds now.
These rooms came out of the same eight years of work, and you can book any of them.

Lunch and dinner, Wednesday through Sunday
The dining rooms
Arched north-facing windows run the length of the room, so there is lake behind every table.

Seats 25
The Cellar
Barrel-vaulted brick below the house, kept low and quiet. It is one room, and nobody passes through it.

Seats 12
The Loft
Twelve seats around one table on the third floor, and a door that closes when you need it to.
Come and look at the stonework.
Most of what you are standing on had another life first. Ask us about the roof and we will tell you which church it came from.
