Hubbard House Underground Railroad Museum

William and Katherine Hubbard built this house in the 1840s and used it as one of the last stations on the Underground Railroad before Lake Erie and the crossing to Canada. People escaping slavery knew it as Mother Hubbard's Cupboard.

It is a small museum in an ordinary-looking house near the Ashtabula lakefront, and that is precisely what makes it land. This was not a monument. It was somebody's home, and the risk was real.

Twenty minutes east, a few minutes from Bridge Street, so it fits naturally into a day in the harbor.
