Bridge Street sits where the Ashtabula River meets Lake Erie, and it has become the best-preserved harbor district in this part of Ohio. Most of the buildings date to around 1880 and every shop and restaurant on the street is owner-operated: clothing, an art gallery, chocolates, ice cream, antiques, a brewery, a wine bar.
The bascule lift bridge went in in 1925 and still raises on the half hour for boat traffic. In the evening it lights up, and it is worth timing a visit for.
Twenty-five minutes east. Of everything in this county it is the closest thing to a proper day out on foot.
