Why stay with us
Erie already has the lake, Presque Isle and the vineyards around North East, so the reason to drive an hour west is what Madison adds. The estate Cabernet Franc is grown beside the inn and aged 12 months in French oak; the 2022 took Double Gold at the 2025 Ohio Wine Competition. The Grand River Valley has its own tasting rooms, M Cellars, Laurello and South River Vineyard among them. The inn has eight adults-only rooms, and Cleveland Magazine named it Best View in its 2026 Best of the East. At 65 minutes, a Wednesday or Thursday overnight is realistic: dinner, the wine bar, breakfast, and home by early afternoon.

A stay worth planning around
Leave Erie by 2:45 p.m. to check in at 4. Outside summer, one night works: dinner and the wine bar, breakfast from 8:30 to 10, check-out at 11. Arrive Wednesday through Saturday, when the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. In summer, book two nights and use the middle day for Geneva-on-the-Lake or Ashtabula Harbor.
Two stops on the Ohio shore
Conneaut Township Park, about 11 minutes north of I-90, a few miles past the state line, has a quarter-mile sand beach with a view of Conneaut’s harbor and lighthouse. The park is open April 1 to November 15, dawn to dusk, and the beach is unguarded. Farther west, Ashtabula Harbor has shops and restaurants along Bridge Street by the lift bridge. Both are on the lake side of I-90, so you reach the inn by staying on the interstate afterward.
A weeknight after work
The 65-minute drive means you can leave Erie at 2:45 and make the 4 p.m. check-in. Take your bags up (there is no elevator; each room has a private bath), then go out to the hot tub or pool, open to inn guests from May to November 1, weather permitting. A summer middle day: Holden and Debonne
On a two-night summer stay, spend the middle day on what the Erie side of the lake does not have. Breakfast is cooked to order until 10 from the standard menu, with coffee and juice included. Then drive about 40 minutes to Holden Arboretum in Kirtland. The Murch Canopy Walk runs 500 feet at 65 feet above the forest floor, and the 120-foot Kalberer Emergent Tower looks out to Lake Erie on a clear day; both are seasonal, so check the hours. Allow two hours. On the way back, stop at Debonne Vineyards in Madison, which farms more than 175 acres of vines, for a glass on the covered patio. Dinner at the inn is at 7.
Suite 101 on a winter weeknight
Outside summer, when the pool is closed, Suite 101 on the first floor has a clawfoot tub and a steam shower for a cold evening. It suits the one-night trip that Erie’s distance allows: check in at 4, check out by 11 the next morning. One-night stays are open outside summer; summer requires two nights.

Take I-79 north a few miles to I-90, then I-90 west for 52 miles across the Ohio line to the Madison exit. There are no tolls in Pennsylvania or Ohio on this route.

Common questions
Why stay the night when Erie is only an hour away?
Because the wine bar is the main reason to come. If you are sleeping upstairs, you can taste the estate Cabernet Franc and the Irish whiskeys without driving afterward. The stay also includes breakfast cooked to order, and from May to November 1, the heated pool and hot tub, weather permitting.
Can we come for dinner without staying the night?
Yes. The restaurant is open to the public for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday (noon to 9, Sunday 11 to 8), with brunch on Sunday from 11 to 2. Reservations and walk-ins are both taken, and the wine bar welcomes walk-ins. It is about 65 minutes back to Erie on I-90, so decide beforehand who drives.

The Grand River Valley wineries around Madison include M Cellars, South River Vineyard, Debonne, Ferrante, Harpersfield Vineyard, Laurello, Grand River Cellars and Cask 307. Hours vary by season, so check before you go. GoGeneva, Sunset Taxi and The Lodge wine shuttle can drive you between them.
