Twenty minutes is close enough to use Vincent William for occasions that happen at home: a birthday dinner, an anniversary, or out-of-town relatives who need somewhere to sleep. The inn has eight adults-only rooms, each with a king or queen bed and a private bath, so it can house eight guests one to a room or sixteen as couples. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday and brunch on Sunday from 11 to 2, with a menu built on produce from West Orchards in Perry, Bonner Farms in Garrettsville and Rainbow Farms in Madison. Breakfast cooked to order is included for anyone staying the night.

For an anniversary, check in after 4 p.m., eat dinner the same night and come down for breakfast at 8:30 before the 11 a.m. check-out. For visiting family, reserve their rooms first, since there are only eight, then book a Sunday brunch table for everyone. In summer the two-night minimum applies.
Lake Erie Bluffs, near Perry
Lake Metroparks’ Lake Erie Bluffs, at 3301 Lane Road in Perry Township, sits between Concord and Madison, a short detour north of I-90. Its 50-foot observation tower has a 360-degree deck and is a regular spot for seeing bald eagles. Three gravel trails of 0.6 to 1.1 miles lead to overlooks and a natural beach. The park is open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the tower is lit at night. The drive has no tolls.
An anniversary evening 20 minutes from home
Leave Concord at 3:40 and you are in Madison as check-in opens at 4. The pool and hot tub, for inn guests from May to November 1 when the weather allows, give you an hour before dinner. Rooms are reached by stairs, since there is no elevator, and each one has its own bath. Book a 6 p.m. table so there is time to finish with the cannoli. The bill for food and drinks is separate from the room.
Arcola Creek in the morning, lunch before home
Breakfast is cooked to order 8:30 to 10 from a standard menu, and the coffee and fresh juice are included. After the 11 a.m. check-out, drive a few minutes to Arcola Creek Park on Dock Road in Madison, a Lake Metroparks site with one of the last natural estuaries in Ohio. The short Wickert Trail leads to the beach, and an observation deck looks over the marsh where migrating birds stop. Return to the inn at noon for lunch downstairs on a Wednesday to Saturday, then drive the 20 minutes home. On a Sunday, brunch runs 11 to 2 instead.
Suite 205 for the anniversary
Book Suite 205 for the anniversary. Its king bed and rooftop patio over the lake are the reason to spend the night 20 minutes from your own house. Sit out there after dinner, then come down for breakfast at 8:30. It is on an upper floor, reached by stairs, and like the other seven rooms it has a private bath. Reserve it early, since the inn has only eight rooms.

Getting here
Get on I-90 east at Route 44 (exit 200) and stay on it for 12 miles to exit 212 (Route 528) in Madison. There are no tolls.
