Arcola Creek Park
5 min drive
A protected estuary and barrier beach five minutes from the gate, on the site of a vanished port town.
Arcola Creek is the closest wild shoreline to the estate: a rare surviving Lake Erie estuary where the creek meets the lake behind a natural barrier beach.
The town of Ellensburg once stood at this junction, a working community of shipbuilders and fishermen. It is entirely gone. What remains is marsh, water birds and a quiet beach that almost nobody is on.
It is a five-minute drive and the single easiest thing to do before breakfast. Bring boots in spring.
