Louisville to Madison, Ohio, is about 390 miles on I-71. Plan three nights at our eight-room Lake Erie winery inn, with Irish whiskeys at the wine bar.
Vincent William is an adults-only inn with eight rooms above our restaurant and wine bar, in a stone and slate mansion that opened to guests in 2024, with Lake Erie beyond the north windows. Estate Cabernet Franc is grown, pressed and poured on the property; the 2022 vintage received Double Gold at the 2025 Ohio Wine Competition. Read our story.
Worth the drive
Why stay with us
Louisville drinkers know American whiskey well, and the wine bar at Vincent William gives them something different to compare: a list of Irish whiskeys, poured alongside estate and local wines and cocktails. The family's roots are Italian and Irish, and the kitchen under Executive Chef Jeff Gable cooks American food shaped by both, buying from West Orchards in Perry, Bonner Farms in Garrettsville and Rainbow Farms in Madison. For a red with some structure, order the estate Cabernet Franc: one acre beside the inn, hand-picked and aged 12 months in French oak. The 2022 won Double Gold at the 2025 Ohio Wine Competition.

A stay worth planning around
At nearly six hours, book three nights. Leave Louisville by 9:30 a.m. on a Wednesday or Thursday to reach check-in at 4 p.m. with a lunch stop in Cincinnati. Avoid a Sunday-to-Tuesday stay, because the restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
Lunch at Findlay Market, Cincinnati
Findlay Market at 1801 Race Street in Over-the-Rhine is a few minutes off the interstate after you cross into Cincinnati. It is Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market, with more than 50 full-time merchants selling meat, cheese, produce and prepared food. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 9 to 6, Saturday 8 to 6 and Sunday 10 to 4; it is closed Monday. The Brent Spence Bridge is free, and the planned companion bridge is being built without tolls.
Wednesday or Thursday, after nearly six hours
With a 9:30 start and lunch in Cincinnati, you reach Madison around 4 p.m., when your room is ready; check-out on your last day is 11 a.m. After that much driving, spend the first hour in the hot tub or the 80°F pool, both open to inn guests May to November 1, weather permitting. Then order an Irish whiskey at the wine bar, where walk-ins are welcome, before dinner. On a weeknight the kitchen serves until 9.
A day at the farm, the church and the still
Start at West Orchards Farm Market in Perry, one of the farms the inn’s kitchen buys from. Check its season and hours before you go; it sells what it grows, from cherries and peaches to apples in the fall. After lunch, drive to South River Road in Geneva. South River Vineyard pours in an 1892 church that the Sigel family took apart in Shalersville and rebuilt here; the pews are still inside. Next to it, Red Eagle Distillery makes bourbon, rye, vodka, rum and brandy, much of it from grain and grapes grown on the property, so you can taste Ohio bourbon and rye against what you drink at home. Arrange a ride through Getting around.
Suite 205 and its rooftop patio
On a three-night trip you will want somewhere to sit outside that is not a shared space. Suite 205 has a king bed and its own rooftop patio over the lake, plus the private bath every room has. It is upstairs and there is no elevator, so bring only the bags you need. Summer stays carry a two-night minimum, which three nights clears.
See Suite 205 and its rooftop patio, read the current menu before the long drive, and reserve your first night’s dinner for about 7.

The drive
Getting here
I-71 north to its merge with I-75 in northern Kentucky, over the Brent Spence Bridge into Cincinnati, then I-71 north to I-271 and I-90 east to Route 528. About 390 miles, toll-free, and all on Eastern time.
Set your destination to 1300 Belleair Avenue, Madison, Ohio. Check current navigation before leaving and allow for traffic and stops. Once here, your room, the restaurant and the wine bar are on the same property.
Good to know
Common questions
Does the wine bar pour whiskey as well as wine?
Yes. Along with estate and local wines and cocktails, the wine bar pours Irish whiskeys. Walk-ins are welcome, and if you are staying at the inn, your room is upstairs. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner Wednesday to Saturday from 12 to 9 and Sunday from 11 to 8, with brunch on Sunday from 11 to 2.
Is breakfast included, and what costs extra?
Breakfast is included for inn guests: it is cooked to order from 8:30 to 10 from a standard menu, with coffee and fresh juice. Upgraded dishes and alcoholic drinks, mimosas among them, are extra. Lunch, dinner and anything from the wine bar, including the Irish whiskeys, are also paid for separately.
Should we split the drive from Louisville into two days?
Most guests can make it in one day: about 5 hours 45 minutes and 390 miles on toll-free interstates. If you would rather break it up, Cincinnati is roughly 100 miles in and Columbus roughly 210, both on I-71. Either way, check-in opens at 4 p.m. and check-out is at 11 a.m.
