This corner of Ohio sits on a significant migratory flyway, which is what makes the birding at Lake Erie Bluffs and Arcola Creek so good, and it is the same geography that underpins the waterfowl hunting on the marshes and river mouths.

Inland, the wildlife areas hold ring-necked pheasant, woodcock and rabbit, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources runs pheasant releases on public ground during the season.
