Smolen-Gulf Covered Bridge
25 min drive
The longest covered bridge in the United States: 613 feet, ninety-three feet above the river.
Smolen-Gulf spans the Ashtabula River at 613 feet, which makes it the longest covered bridge in the United States. It stands ninety-three feet above the water and was dedicated in 2008: a modern Pratt truss built to a nineteenth-century idea and engineered to last a century.
Below it, the Riverview pedestrian covered bridge was added in 2016, so you can walk beneath the big span and photograph it properly from the gorge.
Twenty-five minutes east. Of the county's nineteen covered bridges this is the one that justifies the drive on its own.
From the innkeepers
