More than five thousand acres of public hunting ground on the upper Grand River.
Grand River Wildlife Area covers over five thousand acres of wetland, bottomland forest, floodplain meadow and upland woods along the river. It is the largest block of public hunting ground within reach of the estate.
White-tailed deer, wild turkey, upland birds and waterfowl are the principal game. Cottontail, fox squirrel, ring-necked pheasant and woodcock are all present, and the rabbit, pheasant and woodcock hunting is well regarded.
It is also worth a visit if you do not shoot. A three-quarter-mile wildlife observation trail on Hoffman Norton Road includes a boardwalk across a beaver impoundment.

It is about forty-five minutes inland: the furthest thing we recommend, and a full day rather than a morning. Check ODNR for current seasons and regulations before you go.
